The Basic Rules of Poker

Poker

The basic rules of Poker are as follows: Hold the highest hand you can, which is known as the “nuts.” For example, a trip sevens hand is the best possible, followed by a flush with eights or nines, or a straight with two sevens. If you have more than one five-of-a-kind hand, then the player with the higher card wins. However, if the players have different suits, you should play cautiously, as you may get out of your pot before you reach the flop.

When poker was first played, it was not played with a full 52-card deck. Many variations were invented, including Three-Card Monte and Spit-in-the-Ocean. There are many variations of Poker and each variation is explained later in this chapter. More than ten players can also organize separate games. The game is played in a casino or in a pub, and the winner is the one with the most points.

In a game of Poker, players are allowed to build a special fund called the kitty. This fund is created by cutting a low-denomination chip from each pot with more than one raise. This fund belongs to all players and is used to buy new decks of cards and food for players who get hungry throughout the game. The kitty is split among players who remain in the game. Anyone who leaves before the game is over will forfeit his share of the kitty.
