Poker

Generally speaking, poker is a game of chance. You can play with up to eight people. You buy chips before playing and each player has an obligation to make a bet. Poker is usually played with a standard 52 card deck. However, some variant games use fewer cards. The cards are arranged in four suits, including hearts, diamonds, clubs and spades.

After the initial deal, players begin betting in a clockwise order. Usually, the first player to bet is the “active player” and has the privilege of making the next bet. Each player to the left of the active player must make a bet of the same amount as the last bettor.

Poker betting continues until everyone has dropped their bets. When everyone has dropped their bets, the remaining players are said to be in “showdown”. The highest hand wins the pot.

When two identical hands are tied, the higher card breaks the tie. If everyone has a pair of kings, the highest card wins. However, a king-king hand is not very good off the deal. The player who is in “check” must drop his bet.

Poker has a standard 52 card deck, but some variant games include jokers. Jokers count as fifth ace in certain special hands.

Most poker games have at least two betting intervals per deal. Each player has an obligation to make a bet or a “forced bet” before the deal. These bets are called antes.
